Winter is Coming!

Block those colds and flus this year…Naturally!

For all you Game of Thrones fans out there, “Winter is Coming!” But there won’t be any zombie-like White Walkers to contend with, just those nasty, snotty colds and fever causing, wiped-out-feeling flu! Are you ready? Really ready? Let me show you how to build your immune system to prevent those colds and flus and how to blast them if they manage to creep in.

Cold & Flu PREVENTION

Prevention is the key! Maintain these three basic supplements throughout the entire year, particularly during cold and flu season.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D acts as a HORMONE in your body, directly affecting the DNA of your cells, helping with a multitude of functions. One of the key ways Vitamin D helps is to strengthen the immune system, helping your white blood cells fight infections and viruses. Without Vitamin D, your immune “T Cells” will not activate or mobilize to fight an infection. The centralized key to a healthy immune system is to maintain Vitamin D levels of at least 50 ng/mL, but optimally above 70 ng/mL. When Vitamin D is maintained at these levels, colds and flus are lessened.

Maintenance Dose: 5000 to 10,000 IU Daily. Be sure to have your 25 OH Vitamin D levels checked and keep your levels at least above 50 ng/mL.

Vitamin C

It is well known and established that vitamin C is an immune builder. At the correct doses, it will act as an antimicrobial aiding “natural killer cells.” Vitamin C is also a powerful detoxifier.

Maintenance Dose: 1000 to 3000 mg daily.

Probiotic

Your immune system starts in your digestive system. The average adult has about 4 to 5 pounds of healthy bacteria in and on their body, most of which is in the gut. This healthy bacteria keeps your immune system working properly. Possessing healthy bacteria in the correct balance will boost your immunity and help to fight colds and flus. When a cold or flu hits, the bacteria in your digestive system can be disturbed leading to a lowered immunity and an inability to properly fight the infection.

Maintenance Dose: One (1) Billion CFUs (Colony Forming Units) daily.

Cold & Flu TREATMENT

When a cold or flu does manage to creep in, attacking it immediately is the key! Have these supplements on hand and take them at the appropriate potencies and duration as listed below.

Vitamin D3

At the first sign of a cold of flu take 1000 IU per pound of bodyweight for at least a week.  The dose is extremely important to truly have medicinal benefit. The easiest way to get these medicinal doses is to get 50,000 IU pills. Follow the chart below for proper Vitamin D dosing during a cold or flu.

Weight Vitamin D Dose
100 to 125 lbs 100,000 IU daily x 7 days
126 to 150 lbs 150,000 IU daily x 7 days
151 to 175 lbs 150,000 IU daily x 7 days
176 to 225 lbs 200,000 IU daily x 7 days
226 to 275 lbs 250,000 IU daily x 7 days

* Again, you must get the 50,000 IU pills and have these on hand and ready to go.

Vitamin C

DOSE: At the first sign of a cold or flu take 1000 mg every hour until you notice your stools loosen. Then subtract a 1000 mg from this total and take this dose daily until symptoms resolve. This is what is called the maximum dose of “bowel tolerance.” For example, if you reach 6000 mg and you have loose stools, then reduce the daily dose to 5000 mg the next day.

Probiotics

DOSE: At the first sign of a cold or flu take a High Potency Probiotic with 100 Billion CFUs (Colony Forming Units) for the duration of the cold or flu.

Iodine

Iodine has a long track record and will act as an antiseptic, antimicrobial, and detoxifier. Iodine is a very powerful mineral, and even more powerful at these medicinal doses. In my book, The Hormone Zone, I devote an entire chapter to the benefits of iodine.

DOSE: Take one (1) 12.5 mg pill three (3) times daily for the duration of the cold or flu. You can take three (3) pills at once if you like. Take with food.
